Cindy Sherman, American, born in 1954, Glen Ridge, New Jersey, may well be the most important woman artist on the contemporary art scene. The subject of her photographic works has been definite and highly distinctive ever since the start of her career. The artist portrays and interprets herself through different characters, using masks and disguises. Sherman"s work is often inspired by the world of movies in terms and techniques. She lives and works in New York.
AUTHOR: Francesco Stocchi is a curator of contemporary art, the cofounder of "Solo," a cultural non-profit space, and the author of radio programs. He contributes regularly to Artforum and other art magazines. Since 2005 he has been curator of the artistic programme of the "Angelo Mai" cultural workshop. He lives and works in Rome.
