From the very outset of the Second World War, the importance of winning the battle of the skies was demonstrated as a mix of air superiority and armoured strength, combined with the Third Reich"s "Blitzkrieg" strategy - a strategy that quickly enabled the Germans to conquer most of Western Europe.
